WHO IS JESUS?
For thousands of years, God painted a picture to humanity through prophets of the Hebrew people about who Jesus would be and what he would do. And then it happened — God sent his only Son, Jesus, to the world. He was humbly born into Israel, a descendent of people just like us. Stories of success and failure fill Jesus’s lineage – people who lived selfishly, murdered, who prostituted themselves. Yet God used them for a bigger purpose – to bring a savior.
Jesus was tempted just like us to do evil, but he resisted every temptation knowing God’s plan for him to be a Savior. In very little time, he became a national sensation as he healed those who needed healing, taught with the authority of God, and called out the government and church rulers for their greed, injustice, and evil. He declared truth and love in a culture that felt threatened by Jesus.
In fear of a revolution, the religious leaders convinced the Roman Government to kill Jesus in the most horrible form of torture at the time: crucifixion. Jesus, a person who never did an evil thing, was raised up on a cross by the Roman soldiers and crucified after being whipped and beaten. He died as a sacrifice, taking the punishment of each of our sins with him into death. The price of salvation for us had now been paid, and three days after Jesus died, he conquered death itself as he rose again from the dead.
In those moments, Jesus launched the revolution that the government and religious leaders wanted to stop, and that revolution is salvation and life. This revolution shook the world and it hasn’t stopped since. No longer do we have to hold shame or struggles to ourselves. Jesus took them to the grave and brings new life to us through his resurrection. When we follow Jesus, it changes everything. Life in him is life to the fullest.
Jesus can take your struggle
and turn it into strength.
